In the End

"We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open."
― Jawaharlal Nehru

As Shakespeare says in Romeo & Juliet - "parting is such sweet sorrow". After 17 days it was finally time to say goodbye to our European adventure. It's one that exceeded our wildest dreams and shaped how we see the world around us. None of that would have happened without the amazing people we met along the way...specifically the 27 others who made up our group. They became our family away from home, always welcoming and always looking out for each other.

As we bid you adieu, we want to leave you with a few final memories and tips to make your Rick Steves Tour as amazing as ours!

Barbara:

  • Favorite City: Mürren
  • Best Memory: I loved seeing the mountains! Having the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau out my hotel window was a treat beyond words.
  • Piece of Advice: Pack light and wash clothes as needed. There are several opportunities to do laundry (whether you do it or send it out for a reasonable price). I brought a bar of Kirk's Castile soap - it lathers easily and rinses well too!

John:

  • Favorite City: Mürren
  • Best Memory: Fantastic views of the mountains in Mürren, hiking along the trail down to watch paragliders and, of course, the highlight was the Schilthorn and 007 Museum! Even riding the gondolas up and down the mountain was cool.
  • Piece of Advice: Bring more than a 'point and shoot' camera to this trip. It's worth packing a DSLR camera to capture the fantastic images you'll see firsthand. I used a Sony mirrorless camera which was smaller and lightweight but took high resolution pics. Bring along both a small and longer range lens (24-70 & 70-200+ if you can).

Kristin:

  • Favorite City: Salzburg
  • Best Memory: Watching the sun set on the Swiss Alps
  • Piece of Advice: Split off from the group you came with every once in a while...you get to learn so much more about the people you are traveling with that way. Oh, and invest in a GREAT pair of walking shoes!

We're the Wilds. Until next time...keep on travelin'!
